Join the Global Movement to End Human Trafficking
In 2022, it was estimated that 49.6 million people were victims of modern slavery, a crime that, according to the International Labour Organization, generates more than USD$236 billion in profit every year.
WHAT IS HUMAN TRAFFICKING?
Human trafficking is a form of modern-day slavery. This crime occurs when traffickers use force, fraud, or coercion to control another person for the purpose of forced labor or commercial sex acts.
WHERE DOES HUMAN TRAFFICKING HAPPEN?
Human trafficking occurs in every country, but looks differently depending on region. Countries can be classified as the origin, transit, or destination country for victims, or even a combination of all. In the United States, trafficking occurs in every state.
WHO ARE THE TRAFFICKERS?
Traffickers come from all walks of life and are frequently someone the victim knows, such as a family member, friend, boss, or intimate partner. They can act alone or be part of a larger organization, using various control tactics to trap their victim.
WHO DO TRAFFICKERS TARGET?
Anyone can be trafficked, regardless of gender, race, or age, but some people are more vulnerable to trafficking. Individuals living in poverty, immigrants, members of marginalized groups, or those with a history of trauma or addiction are particularly at risk.
